One of the reasons that a hydraulic equipped vehicle rides “stiff’ is that once the car is raised, the fluid in the cylinder is held tight by the check valves. This takes away from the vehicles suspension travel by holding the coil under pressure, and not allowing the suspension to give. An Accumulator is a steel sphere divided internally by a bladder. The top of the accumulator has an air stem, which allows you to pressurize the accumulator with nitrogen. We found that 350psi works best with most applications, but you can adjust the pressure to work best with your application. The bottom end of the accumulator must be tee’d off your dump to go inline with the hydraulic hose going into the cylinder. By doing this, it allows the hydraulic fluid to move in and out of the accumulator pushing against the bladder. How this works: While driving down the road, the cylinder piston is being forced in and out of the cylinder, causing the fluid to be forced into the accumulator, and being deflected off the bladder. As the fluid flows through the accumulator port, the cylinder movement is damped, simulating the effect of a shock absorber. Accumulators can improve the ride of any hydro-equipped vehicle 100%.
